Presentation Of Learning

Teaching is Like Creating Art

1st Major learning: "Embracing Flexibility"
Teaching is like painting a masterpiece on a canvas of learning. Imagine yourself standing in front of a blank canvas, brush in hand, ready to create. The first major learning, embracing flexibility, is akin to the way a painter adapts their brushstrokes and colors as they work. Just as unexpected changes in lighting or perspective can influence the direction of a painting, unforeseen challenges in the classroom require a teacher to pivot and adjust their approach, seamlessly blending flexibility into their teaching practice like strokes on a canvas. If you are too rigid in your plan you may miss great opportunities to allow the painting to flow where it wants to go and in the end can feel forced and/over worked.

2nd Major learning: “Balancing Creativity and Structure

Think of it as mixing different colors on your palette to achieve the perfect harmony. In teaching, this means fostering a classroom environment where creativity flourishes within a framework of structure and guidance. Like the delicate dance between bold strokes and fine details in a painting, balancing freedom of expression with clear learning objectives allows students to unleash their creativity while also developing essential skills and knowledge.

3rd Major learning: “Building Rapport

Finally, building rapport is like adding layers of depth to your painting. Just as each layer of paint adds richness and complexity to the artwork, building strong relationships with students adds depth and meaning to the learning experience. Whether it's through shared experiences, genuine interest in their lives, or moments of laughter and connection, building rapport creates a supportive and inclusive classroom community where students feel valued, understood, and inspired to explore their artistic potential.

So, as you stand before the canvas of teaching, remember to embrace flexibility like a skilled painter adjusting to the flow of their brush, balance creativity and structure like mixing colors on your palette, and build rapport like adding layers of depth to your masterpiece. In doing so, you'll create not only beautiful works of art but also meaningful and transformative learning experiences for your students.
